Greetings

The 41st Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Plant Biotechnology (Sendai) will be held over three days from Friday, August 30 to Sunday, September 1, 2024, at Tohoku University's Kawauchi North Campus in Aoba Ward, Sendai City. This marks the first time in 14 years that the meeting is being held in Sendai since the 28th Annual Meeting. Following the 40th Annual Meeting (Chiba), the 41st Annual Meeting (Sendai) will also be conducted in a hybrid format, combining in-person and online participation. The networking reception (social gathering) will be held in-person at the cafeteria located on the same Kawauchi North Campus. By utilizing a hybrid format, we aim to provide as many people as possible with the opportunity to participate in the meeting, fostering lively discussions and deep exchanges among participants through this event.

Since renaming our society to the Japanese Society for Plant Biotechnology in 2020, our activities have garnered increasing attention both domestically and internationally. This meeting is one of the most significant activities of our society, allowing us to reaffirm the proud knowledge and technology we have accumulated over the years, and to share the cutting-edge advancements in plant biotechnology from Japan and around the world with all participants in Sendai. To this end, the meeting will commence on the first day, Friday, August 30, with general presentations and symposiums. On the afternoon of the second day, Saturday, August 31, the general meeting, award ceremony, and award lectures will be held, followed by a networking reception in the cafeteria on campus in the evening. On the third day, Sunday, September 1, there will be general presentations as well as an international symposium on genome editing and a public symposium. In addition to the aforementioned international symposium, there will be headquarters-organized symposiums and initiatives launched from the host region of Tohoku. We will also offer lunchtime seminars (on the first and second days) and corporate exhibits (throughout the event period) to provide participants with valuable information. Moreover, at the recent board meeting, it was decided that the 41st Annual Meeting (Sendai) will also include the presentation of the “JSPB Outstanding Student Presentation Award”.

The meeting venue is very accessible, located a one-minute walk from Kawauchi Station on the Sendai City Subway Tozai Line, which is just a seven-minute ride from JR Sendai Station. The setup facilitates easy movement between two closely situated lecture halls. Additionally, near the venue is the expansive Tohoku University Botanical Garden, the first in Japan to be designated as a natural monument, which we hope all society members will enjoy. The nearby Sendai Castle ruins, museums, and art galleries associated with Date Masamune also offer excellent opportunities for a refreshing stroll during your free time. Furthermore, you can savor Sendai's unique food culture, including beef tongue, fresh seafood, and local sake.

We sincerely hope that many of you will visit Sendai and enjoy the meeting. We also strive to provide online streaming to allow as many people as possible to participate. The organizing committee is committed to making every effort to ensure the success of the meeting. We look forward to the participation of many attendees.
